The rule I started with
I’m Wyatt Calhoun, and I run Appaloosa Moving and Storage. We opened in 2015 on one rule I still hold to: the flat price is signed in writing before the truck leaves the yard — no clock games after a Summerville stair carry, no add-on because a Clarks Hill drive turns to gravel.
I grew up in Columbia County out toward Clarks Hill Lake and spent years running freight and warehouse crews along the Augusta I-20 corridor. I watched too many out-of-town outfits dangle a cheap number, then run it up once the load was strapped down. My crew does the opposite.
Who actually turns up
- A roster of roughly 15 movers, each one W-2, background-checked, and pulling on an Appaloosa shirt.
- Our own trucks — every evening they roll back to the Columbia Rd yard here in Appling to get swept out, re-padded, and staged for the next day’s runs.
- The same movers load and unload on local CSRA jobs — you never get passed off to a stranger.
- Properly authorized — Georgia household-goods mover authority, plus our own US DOT and MC authority for interstate.
The area we actually work
We carry Riverwalk-district lofts in downtown Augusta, brick homes on the Summerville hill, lakefront places around Clarks Hill, and the newer subdivisions off Washington Rd and Furys Ferry in Evans and Martinez. Summer heat is the constant — we start early, hydrate the crew, and keep the truck out of the afternoon sun.
The people you’ll deal with
- Della Monroe runs the office — your quote, your certificate of insurance, your Georgia paperwork.
- Trey Boliver handles dispatch, laying out each day’s truck board over the whole CSRA.
- Jamal Rivers is my lead crew chief — pianos, safes, and those Summerville hill carries.
- Cade Whitfield leads our long-haul runs out I-20 and I-520.
- Boone Ledbetter handles downtown Augusta lofts and Riverwalk-district moves.
What you’ll pay
Close to home the rate runs $150 an hour for two movers and a truck, or $200 with a third — padding, dollies, shrink-wrap, and drive time built in, on a one-hour minimum. Cross a state line and it becomes a binding flat figure, signed before we lift a box.
